STS2113 History & Philosophy of Internet Technology

This course investigates implementations of Internet technologies. The focus is on the founding premises of the Internet, uncovering the assumptions about culture, policy objectives and ideals of practitioners, before and after the World Wide Web. The course investigates typical claims about the Internet, such as its capability to inculcate democracy, and the development of the attendant hardware and software infrastructure.

Prerequisites: Completion of first year writing requirements. Co-requisites: None. Notes: Satisfies a HuSS Elective.
