This course provides a systematic and broad survey of the political, social, technological, and cultural history of the world from the early sixteenth century to the present. The course examines major events and themes that have shaped the development of the modern world over the past four centuries, including: Capitalism and Technology; Exploration, Mapping, and Measurement; the Industrial Revolution; Technology and Colonial Imperialism; and Technology and War in the 20th Century. Credits: 3.

Prerequisites: Completion of first year writing requirements.
